| Notes | Entrepreneur C.C Calkins built this elaborate structure in the late 1880s on the north shore of Mercer Island as a resort, restaurant and hotel. Excursion steamers visited the Calkins Hotel, and visitors enjoyed its beaufilly landscaped gardens and walks. The hotel burned to the ground on July 2, 1908. |
