| Notes | Arthur Denny is credited as the founder of the city of Seattle. He arrived at Alki Point on November 13, 1851, with his wife and children and other members of the extended Denny-Boren family group that had journeyed together from Illinois to the Pacific Northwest. After a winter at Alki Point, Denny relocated east, to the shore of Elliott Bay, and staked his claim on the waterfront of the site that would be named "Seattle, " to honor the Duwamish chief who welcomed these settlers. |
