Date1948
NotesThe S.S. VIRGINIA V was built in 1922 for the West Pass Transportation Company to carry freight and passengers from the communities on Vashon Island to Seattle and Tacoma. Once part of the Mosquito Fleet, the VIRGINIA V is the last surviving steamer of that large fleet of vessels that served waterfront towns all over Puget Sound, . At a time when most of the small private ferries were scrapped, the "Five" continued to provide a vital commercial service as a passenger and cargo ferry well into the mid-twentieth century. By the 1950s she had become Seattle's favorite excursion and charter vessel and has remained in almost continuous operation in the years since.
