Painting of David Denny
Painting of David Denny
TitlePainting of David Denny
PhotographerRichard Nicol
NotesDavid Thomas Denny was the younger brother of the founding settler of Seattle, David Armstrong Denny. David Denny was sent on ahead of the main party to scout out places for settlement, and sent a note to the rest of the party at Portland, that he had found a good spot on Puget Sound, with plenty of room. David Denny married Louisa Boren, in the first marriage recorded in King County, and the couple homesteaded land at south Lake Union. Denny was a progressive and forward-thinking man, an advocate for prohibition, civil rights for Chinese and electric streetcar development in Seattle. He faced bankruptcy late in life, and combined prospecting trips into the Cascade Mountains with family life at his home at Licton Springs.
