| Title | Crescent Manufacturing Co. 1920 |
| Photographer | Richard Nicol |
| Date | 1920 |
| Notes | In 1888, Crescent began as a small spice business at the foot of Seneca Street, manufacturing baking powder and extracts. Like all local businesses, Crescent was adversely affected by the Great Fire of 1889 and the long national recession which followed. After the discovery of Klondike gold in 1897, Seattle became the outfitting center and the jump-off point to the far north, and Crescent grew and prospered with other local businesses over the succeeding decade. By 1916, the Crescent Manufacturing Company was one of the largest tea, coffee, baking powder and extracts manufacturers on the Pacific Coast. In 1989, the retail spice business of Crescent Foods was purchased by McCormick and Company. |
