NotesJoe Gottstein (1891-1971), a co-founder of Longacres racetrack in Renton, WA, was a longtime friend of Senator Warren G. Magnuson. Magnuson, during his single term in the Washington State Legislature (1932-1934), played a key role in the passage of a law allowing pari-mutuel betting on horse racing. The law paved the way for the establishment of Longacres in 1933.
