| Notes | In 1897, Joseph and Marcus Mayer founded a jewelry business that would quickly become known for the manufacture of street clocks. The business was known as Joseph Mayer and Bros. until around 1920 when it split into Mayer Bros., a wholesaling company run by Al and Marcus Mayer, and a manufacturing company run by Joseph Mayer.
