Northern Pacific Railway refrigerator car NPMX 100 in Renton, October 24, 1954
TitleNorthern Pacific Railway refrigerator car NPMX 100 in Renton, October 24, 1954
PhotographerUnknown
Date1954
CaptionFirst mechanical refrigerator car of a series of 50 (Nos. 100-149) built for Northern Pacific Railway by Pacific Car and Foundry Company, Renton, Washington.
'Mechanical' means it contained a diesel powered refrigeration unit which rendered obsolete the previous practice of filling bunkers in cars with ice and salt.
The number series on all of these cars was later modified by removing the letter "X" from the initials, making the Initials "NPM."
NotesStamped on verso: Photograph by Pacific Car & Foundry Co, Neg. No. 10224-1, Date Oct 26 1954.

Pacific Car and Foundry Company also known as PACCAR. [Note from the Library of Congress Name Authority File.]

Date supplied by White River Valley Museum staff.

Source of caption information: handwritten notes on verso and White River Valley Museum staff.
