Wing
Luke
was the
first
Asian
American
to
hold
elected
office
in the
Pacific
Northwest.
He
served
on the
Seattle
City
Council
from
1962
until
his
death
in a
plane
crash
in
1965.
Notes
The
Wawona
,
launched
in
1897
, was the
largest
three-masted
sailing
schooner
ever
built
in
North
America.
It
fell
into
disrepair
until
1964
,
when
a
group
of
King
County
citizens
purchased
it
to
serve
as a
maritime
museum.
In
1970
it
became
the
first
ship
in the
nation
to be
listed
on the
National
Register
of
Historic
Places.
