CaptionColumbia School was built in 1892 and a wing was added on the west in 1893. King County School District 18 was formed in 1876. In 1880 the first school, a one-room building, was opened. It was located at 51st Avenue and Brandon Street. In 1891 Columbia School won out over Dunlap School as the main school for King County District 18. Pupils from the "Little School on the Hill" were sent to Columbia School which now had 2 teachers and 85 students. Classes met in the town hall and in the first floor of the school while the second floor was being built. Columbia School served an area six miles along the streetcar tracks and one mile on each side of the tracks.
