| Caption | Opening on April 21, 1950, Northgate Shopping Mall lays claim to being the nation's, and probably the world's, first regional suburban shopping center. The open-air mall provided convenient shopping for those living far from Seattle's downtown business district. With room for 80 stores original tenants included the Bon Marche, an A & P grocery store, Ernst Hardware, Newberry's and Nordstrom's shoes. |
