| Title | Alki Point landing re-enactment, Seattle, 1951 |
| Photographer | Staff Photographer Seattle Post-Intelligencer |
| Date | 1951 |
| Caption | November 1951 marked the centennial of the arrival of the founding white settlers to Alki Point, in West Seattle. The event kicked off a year-long celebration of dignitary visits, the opening of the Museum of History & Industry and a time capsule installation. In this photo, a group rehearses the re-enactment of the Denny party's landing by canoe. Women and children dressed in sun bonnets are greeted by Robert Jensen, who portrays David T. Denny, with bandages covering the injuries he sustained from building a cabin. In the background can be seen a stand-in for the schooner Exact, which carried the settlers from Portland, Oregon. |
