|Title||Children at a fishing derby, Renton, 1949 |
|Caption||In June 1949, more than 300 boys and girls lined the banks of the Cedar River to compete in Renton's second annual Kid's Fishing Derby. The state game department had released nearly 3, 000 trout nearby, and fishing was particularly good. Winner Joe Drazich, age 5, was the first to catch the limit of 20 speckled trout. He told reporters that he planned to eat all of the fish, but later decided to give some to his parents so that they would do the cooking.|
In this photo, a group stands thigh high in the river hoping to reel in the largest fish. Standing on a bridge above them, more derby participants cast their lines into the water.
