| Title | Washington apples in a Seattle market, ca. 1943 |
| Photographer | Webster & Stevens |
| Date | ca. 1943 |
| Caption | In 1943, the state of Washington was the country's leading apple producer, growing one fifth of all apples grown in the United States. Apples were the state's third most valuable agricultural product, after wheat and milk. This photo, taken in the early 1940s, shows a large display of Washington apples in a Seattle market. Some of the apples are wrapped in tissue paper to keep them from bruising. The apples are selling for $5.25 per box. Posters advertising Washington fruit hang on the walls. One reads, "Health that tastes good!" |
