TitleCar going through giant cedar stump, ca. 1950
PhotographerEllis, J. Boyd
Dateca. 1950
CaptionBy about 1950, when this photographic postcard was probably made, the few remaining stumps of western Washington's gigantic trees existed only as curiosities -- something to marvel at or, in this case, drive through.
This postcard image shows a car driving through a gigantic western red cedar stump at Arlington, Washington. The sign above the hole in the tree tells visitors that this relic of a vanquished forest was preserved by Snohomish County pioneers in 1922.
NotesOriginal title: Giant cedar stump, Pacific Highway, US 99, Washington.
