| Caption | The University of Washington's football program was suspended during World War I because so many male students were serving in the military. After the men returned, the University continued to build its championship teams. This photo, taken about 1919, shows an early post-war football team posed in formation in the university's early stadium, University Field. The men have removed their helmets for the picture. |
