School, students and teachers at Nagrom, Washington, ca. 1910s
TitleSchool, students and teachers at Nagrom, Washington, ca. 1910s
PhotographerWaters, V.S.
Dateca. 1910s
CaptionIn the 1990s, Nagrom is a small settlement in the upper Green River Valley of western Washington state. For a number of years, starting in 1911, it was a thriving logging and sawmill town. A Northern Pacific Railroad official gave the town its name by spelling "Morgan" backwards. E.G. Morgan was the president of the Morgan Lumber Company which operated the town's sawmill.
This photographic postcard, probably made in the 1910s, shows students and teachers standing outside the Nagrom School. The land near the wooden schoolhouse seems to have been cleared recently.
NotesOriginal title: Schoolhouse, Nagrom, Wn.

Original photographic print (postcard): Waters, V.S., ca. 1910s. Copied in 1998 by the Museum of History and Industry.
