| Caption | Northwest Airlines started in Minneapolis-St. Paul in 1926. By the late 1930s, its routes had spread to the northwest and Seattle. The company started using Douglas DC-4s in 1946, shortly after the end of World War II. In 1947, Northwest started flying across the Pacific Ocean, and has since expanded to become a worldwide carrier. This photo shows a Northwest Airlines Douglas DC-4 airplane parked outside the Northwest hangar at Sea-Tac Airport near Seattle. |
