| Photographer | Webster & Stevens |
| Date | ca. 1926 |
| Caption | In 1923, five Catholic Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary moved to Seattle from Dubuque, Iowa, to begin teaching at the new St. John's School. The B.V.M. Sisters were very active in the life of the Greenwood parish. In addition to teaching school and Sunday school, they led choirs and clubs, served on the parish council, and were part of social justice committees. This photo, taken around 1926, shows five Sisters of Charity on the porch of their bungalow on NW 79th Street in Greenwood. This house, which looked like others in the neighborhood, served as their convent from 1926 to 1948. |
