| Caption | The first sailing of the steamship President Grant was a momentous event. Robert Dollar, owner of the Dollar Steamship Line, gave a speech to a large crowd gathered at the dock. Mayor Bertha Landes, members of the Chamber of Commerce and representatives of the Admiral Oriental Line were all in attendance. This photo shows the casting off of the lines, performed by five young women dressed in sailor suits. |
