CaptionWashington was the 24th state to vote for Prohibition's repeal, and the national social experiment finally ended with the adoption of the Twenty-first Amendment to the Constitution on December 5, 1933. Immediately following the adoption of the amendment, a wave of commercial wineries were established. The first such "bonded" winery in the state was St. Charles Winery, founded by Charles Somers (and his son C. W. "Bill" Somers) on Stretch Island.
