Charles Lindbergh arriving on dock, Seattle, September 13, 1927
Charles Lindbergh arriving on dock, Seattle, September 13, 1927
TitleCharles Lindbergh arriving on dock, Seattle, September 13, 1927
PhotographerStaff Photographer
Seattle Post-Intelligencer
Date1927
CaptionIn May 1927, Charles A. Lindbergh made the first solo nonstop flight between New York and Paris in his plane the "Spirit of St. Louis." Lindbergh immediately became an international celebrity and was greeted with parades and gifts everywhere he went. He visited Seattle on September 13 and 14, 1927, where excited citizens presented him with a monogrammed gold ring and arranged many festivities. After flying into Sand Point, the yacht "Alarwee" took him to the University Stadium where he delivered an address to approximately 25, 000 people promoting aviation and airports. In addition to Seattle's first "ticker-tape" style parade, 30, 000 schoolchildren met him in Volunteer Park to celebrate.

In this September 1927 photo, Lindbergh shown debarking a boat with Mayor Bertha Landes in foreground to the left. It is quite possible that this was the yacht, the "Alarwee, " which picked Lindbergh up from Sand Point and transported him to the University Stadium for his speech.
