CaptionThe Army Air Corps ordered the first 13 B-17s in early 1936. The bomber took its maiden flight just 12 months later on December 2, 1936. At the peak of its production in 1944, the Seattle Boeing plant would complete 16 B-17s every 24 hours. The B-17 was known for its power, agility, and durability.
