| Title | David and Carrie Rodgers at launch of S.S. Edmore, Skinner & Eddy shipyard, Seattle, May 24, 1919 |
| Photographer | Webster & Stevens |
| Date | 1919 |
| Caption | David Rodgers (circa 1865-1923) was a master shipfitter who managed the Skinner & Eddy Corp. shipyard in Seattle from 1916 until 1919. Under Rodgers' management, the crew broke production speed records for ship construction and completed more ships for the U.S. war effort than any other American shipyard. Rodgers retired from the shipyard in 1919 due to health issues arguably related to his exhausting work schedule, and died in 1923 at 58 years old.
Rodgers was married to Canadian-born Carrie B. Rodgers (circa 1867-1947). Carrie Rodgers was a sponsor for the S.S. Edmore, and is shown here on launch day with her husband on the dedication platform, holding a bouquet of flowers in her right hand and a bottle in her left, presumably to christen the Edmore upon its launching. |
