CaptionOn March 1st, 1910, two Great Northern trains, the "Seattle Express" train no. 25, and Fast Mail train No. 27 were caught in an avalanche near Wellington, Washington. The avalanche pushed both trains 150 feet down into the Tye River valley, where the cars were buried in snow and debris. Ninety-six people were killed in the disaster, and bodies were wrapped in blankets and transported from the scene by toboggan to Wellington.
