| Title | Gatewood School students on last day of school, Seattle, June 17, 1949 |
| Photographer | Davis, Harvey Seattle Post-Intelligencer |
| Date | 1949 |
| Caption | Seattle Post-Intelligencer photographers regularly shot pictures of ecstatic children leaving on the last day of school, usually a bright and sunny June day. This photo of Gatewood students is typical, and so is the old school building. Gatewood, named for residential tracts in the West Seattle neighborhood, opened in 1910. In 1988 the exterior of the school was designated a city landmark, and the renovation work done in 1991 is a model for its successful blending of new and old elements. |
