CaptionOn December 15, 1941 disaster struck the Pike Place Market. Just eight days after the bombing of Pearl Harbor the Sanitary Market building was destroyed by fire. Newspapers speculated that Japanese Americans were responsible for starting the blaze. The cause of the fire was never determined.
