CaptionIn 1906, University of Washington professor Edmund Meany and others who enjoyed the outdoors founded The Mountaineers. Since then, the club has sponsored a wide variety of activities, from wilderness skiing and backcountry camping to folk dancing and environmental protection. This 1948 photo shows a group of Mountaineers demonstrating rescue techniques in West Seattle's Camp Long.
