CaptionBuilt in 1911 and initially standing alone on University Street between Fourth and Fifth Avenues, the Metropolitan Theatre was soon engulfed by the 1924 construction and 1928 expansion of the Olympic Hotel. In its heyday the theatre graced its stage with such stars as opera singer Geraldine Farrar, and actresses Mary Pickford and Helen Hayes. The theatre closed in 1954 and was demolished in 1956 to make way for the Olympic Hotel's University Street motorcar entrance.
