|Title||Seattle transit campaign with local celebrities awarding a bus rider, Seattle, 1956 |
|Caption||Mrs. Harriett Petersen receives a flower on her lapel from Ice Capades skating star Sandy Culbertson as she boards the "no fare" Roosevelt bus. Skating star Joan MacInnes, at left, looks on as Stan Boreson, KING-TV star, greets happy riders with accordion music. The Seattle Transit System was introducing their 100 new "air ride" buses that cost $2, 100, 000. In addition to a free ride, flowers, and music, riders received other freebies including a copy of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, apples, magazines, and a pair of tickets to the Ice Capades. The free bus was scheduled to run for two weeks on various routes. |
