| Caption | Eight houses on Franklin Avenue were auctioned off to make way for the Seattle Freeway. This block now lies under the south end of the Lake Washington Ship Canal Bridge. After the Washington State Highway Department paid homeowners fair market value for their homes, the buildings were auctioned off for either removal or salvage. A 17-room home sold for only $80 while a seven-room home that could be moved in one piece sold for $400. |
