TitleNorth Bend during widening of Sunset Highway, 1942

Date1942
CaptionThe opening of Lake Washington's first floating bridge in 1940 greatly increased the number of cars traveling between eastern and western Washington on the Sunset Highway. The narrow main street of North Bend, near Snoqualmie Pass, remained a bottleneck, however. State officials threatened to reroute the highway around North Bend if the town did not widen the street.

This photo, taken in 1942, shows North Bend during the widening of the Sunset Highway.
