| Photographer | Davis, Harvey Seattle Post-Intelligencer |
| Date | 1947 |
| Caption | Fisherman Elias Gumlam prepares a halibut boat to return to sea after a 2-month long strike of the Deep Sea Fishermen's Union against the Fishing Vessel Owners' Association. After sitting idle since May 1 the strike ended on July 1. The settlement calls for a boat's share of the catch to be 21 percent, and the fishermen will share the owners' cost of fathometer rent. The remainder of the season will be spent in Area 3, from Cape Spencer to the Aleutian Islands. The fleet expects to catch the remaining 23 million pounds of the 28 million pound limit in this area before the season ends November 1. |
