| Caption | Television cameras and crowds of patrons eagerly await the grand opening of Seattle's new Central Library at 1000 Fourth Avenue. The new library opened on March 26, 1960 on the site of the old Carnegie library that was demolished nearly three years earlier. At 206, 000 square feet, almost three times larger than the old library, this second Central Library became obsolete after only 40 years of service and was demolished in September 2001. |
