PhotographerToyo Studio
Date1930
NotesThe Bellevue Japanese community of approximately 300 residents built a clubhouse in 1930 near NE 10th Street and 102nd Avenue NE. The dedication was attended by Bellevue's leading citizens as well as friends and relatives from Seattle. It was estimated that 500 people attended the gathering. The building served many purposes such as community business meetings, Buddhist and Christian church services, flower arranging classes, movies, Japanese language classes, shibais (plays), and various indoor activities such as girls and boys basketball, judo, and kendo. Football and baseball teams were also organized and annual community picnics were held on the site.
