Note from EHC records: The American Pacific Whaling Co.'s 7 boats were brought to Meydenbauer Bay in 1919 by William Schupp for the fresh water winter port. The whaling season ran from May through September off the coast of Alaska. Boats were steel hulled and steam powered. Between WWI & WWII the whaling company was the Eastside's second biggest employer, after the Houghton Shipyards. |
