Peter Kirk's steel mill, Kirkland -- The mill was named The Great Western Iron and Steel Works on Steel Works Lake, formerly known as Forbes Lake, now known as Lake Kirkland. The mill became financially insolvent in 1895. The majority of land was bounded on the south by today's Central Ave and extended as far north as the Juanita Slough. The Great Western Iron Works Steel Mill, a part of the company, was located on Rose Hill on Forbes Lake. |
