| Caption | Milton Vernon was born in 1885 in Amite, Louisiana, but his family left the state about 1890. They moved first to San Jose, California, and then to Portland, Oregon, where Milton graduated from Portsmouth Grammar School. He worked as a mail clerk for the railroad and later was employed by the U.S. Post Office. In 1914 he married Pearl LaFon; they had one daughter, Vermilta. |
