CaptionJuanita Alexander Davis, the daughter of Irene Harvey Alexander and Ernest Alexander, graduated from Garfield High School in 1938. After being denied admission to the University of Washington School of Nursing because she was African American, she completed nurse's training at the Homer G. Phillips School of Nursing in St. Louis. She worked as a registered nurse in a Seattle Public Health Department clinic, retiring after 32 years. Juanita was married in Seattle to John Lawrence Davis, formerly of Phoenix, Arizona.

Dorothy Alexander Vickers graduated from Garfield in 1935. After training at Griffin-Murphy Secretarial School in Seattle, she became the Medical Secretary to the Chief of Medicine at the Portland VA hospital. Dorothy was married in Portland to Thomas Vickers, formerly of West Palm Beach, Florida.
NotesDorothy was 5 years old and Juanita was 3 when this image was taken. Photo was taken in front of the home of their grandparents, Eva and Charles Harvey, at 308 29th Avenue North (now East).
