The
Woodson
Apartments
,
located
at
1820
24th
Avenue
in
Seattle
, were
built
by
Zacharias
and
Irene
Woodson
in
1908.
It
was the
first
apartment
building
in the
city
for
African
American
tenants.
The
Woodsons
were
anticipating
an
increased
demand
for
housing
due
to the
1909
Alaska-Yukon-Pacific
Exposition.
During
the
fair
, the
Woodsons
were the
proprietors
of
both
these
apartments
and
another
rooming
house.
They
stayed
in the
business
until
the
1930s.
The
building
is
known
today
as the
Cascade
View
Apartments.
