| Title | Founders of ROOTS picnic, Seattle, ca. 1950 |
| Photographer | Unknown |
| Date | ca. 1950 |
| Caption | In 1972 Arline Steward Yarbrough found this photo of old friends and wanted to get them together again. She and her husband hosted a dinner party at which the idea of an annual reunion took shape. The ROOTS picnic initially took place in Seward Park, but bees and lack of parking eventually forced a change of location to Gasworks Park, where the picnic is still held today. It takes place the Sunday before Labor Day and attracts big crowds. |
