| Historical Background | Fay Chong was born in Canton, China on March 2, 1912. He attended the University of Washington, the Leon Derbyshire School of Art and privately with Mark Tobey. He was a member of the Northwest Printmakers, the Northwest Watercolor Society, Puget Sound Group of Painters and the Washington Art Association. Chong was part of Seattle's WPA Art Project during the Depression and produced numerous paintings and blockprints during that time. He was also the Designer for the University of Washington's Applied Physics Laboratory for thirteen years and taught at several Seattle schools. |
