| General Notes | Printing specimen taken from Brown, George M.L. Specimens of woodcuts and engravings; a portfolio of original leaves taken from rare and notable illustrated books. New York, The Foliophiles, 1926.
The woodcuts, although crude, are of considerable historic importance because, as so rarely occurred in early illustrated books, they frequently bear the engraver's initials. "C.S." is probably Christopher Stimmer, but "H.H." which appears on others can hardly be ascribed to Hans Holbein, even though it is known that Holbein made the title borders for the 1556 German edition.

| Content | German cartographer, cosmographer, and Hebrew scholar whose Cosmographia (1544; Cosmography) was the earliest German description of the world and a major work in the revival of geographic thought in 16th-century Europe. In 1540 he published a Latin edition of Ptolemy's Geographia, illustrated with 27 woodcut maps after Ptolemy and 21 of Munster's own design.
