| Content | La secchia rapita is based on warfare between the Italian cities of Bologna and Modena in the early 14th-century, during which the Modenese captured Bologna's town well bucket as a trophy. In Tassoni's poem the Bolognese offer entire towns and groups of hostages for their bucket. Every episode begins seriously but ends in some hilarious absurdity |
