| Binding | This is a historically significant binding that should be handled as little as possible. Bound in contemporary leather over beveled oak boards. Original leather and decorated brass and clasp, part of second clasp still extant. Both handle tools and rolls used for cover designs in gilt and blind. Ornate central medallion on front cover. Sewn on 5 cords, laced through the boards. Original headbands and tailbands missing. Evidence of 20th century spine repair and leather consolidation. Bad 20th century hinge repair front and back cover, jeopardizing endsheets. Bookworm damage. |
