Bifolium Two columns. 39 lines. 12th century Latin fragment of a Bible on parchment. This section is I Maccabees IX, 29-31; 2 Maccabees 1, 11-23. Probably produced in Germany or Austria. The script is Condensed Carolingian. Decorated initials, Litterae Notabiliores and some text in red. Dates of 1616 and 1674 in ink. Ex libris ink stamp of previous owner. Parchment used as book binding and possibly as letter cover with folding evident. Shows insect damage and evidence of old sewn repair with thread fragments. |
