General NotesThis is plate number 260 taken from the work "Flore Medicale". It illustrates the plant "ortie" (nettle).

"The plates were drawn by Pierre Jean Francois Turpin (1775-1840), the most important botanical painter in France next to Redoute and Poiteau, and by Mme. Ernestine Panckoucke, his pupil. The engravers are well known artists specialising in reproductions of scientific character." (Nissen, Claus. Herbals of Five Centuries; A contribution to medical history and bibliography. Zurich: L'Art Ancien, 1958. Print.)

This is leaf number 45 taken from the modern collection entitled: Herbals of five centuries; 50 original leaves from German, French, Dutch, English, Italian, and Swiss herbals; with an introduction and bibliography by Claus Nissen. Zurich: L'Art Ancien, Olten, Weiss-Hesse [etc.], 1958.
