General NotesThis is plate number 18 taken from the work "Icones plantarum medicinalium". It illustrates the plant "asphodelus luteus" (king's spear or yellow asphodelus).

This is from the 2nd edition of the work, published between 1783 and 1790. Zorn was a pharmacist based in Kempten, Bavaria in Germany. He was fascinated by plants of the new world and in 1786 published "Drey hundert auserlesene amerikanische gewachse". "Icones plantarum" was later translated into Dutch and published in Amsterdam by J. C. Sepp & Son.

This is leaf number 44 taken from the modern collection entitled: Herbals of five centuries; 50 original leaves taken from German, French, Dutch, English, Italian, and Swiss herbals; with an introduction and bibliography by Claus Nissen. Zurich: L'Art Ancien, Olten, Weiss-Hesse [etc.], 1958.
