This is plate number 334 from the work entitled "Läbliche Abbildung...". It illustrates the plant "Baumwoll" (cotton) with the latin name beneath.

The "Läbliche Abbildung..." was an octavo edition of the New Kreüterbuch released without the accompanying text, simply labeled in German and Latin. The illustrations were re-cut to accomodate the smaller size of the book. It was reprinted several times during the 1500s, including once in French.

This is leaf number 20 from the modern collection entitled: Herbals of five centuries; 50 original leaves from German, French, Dutch, English, Italian, and Swiss herbals; with an introduction and bibliography by Claus Nissen. Zurich: L'Art Ancien, Olten, Weiss-Hesse [etc.], 1958.
