| Content | Written by a fellow of Exeter College, the book concerns the theory and principles of geography. "The author maintains that the earth is the centre of the universe, the sun and planets revolving round it!" Madan. "California is mentioned as the fifth continent. The author remarks that California is "by a Spanish chart taken by the Hollanders, discovered to be an iland" and not part of the continent as supposed." Sabin (See Book II, p.115) Geography is divided into The Spherical Part, or that for the study of which mathematics alone is required, and The Topical Part, or the description of the physical relations of parts of the earths surface, preferring this division to that favored by the ancient geographers into general and special. It is distinguished from other English geographical books of the period by confining attention to the principles of geography, and not describing the countries of the world.
